are you ready for a kitten? Self-quiz
The following questions will help you decide if you are ready to have a kitten:
Will I be upset by the inevitable wear and tear on household items? The scratch on the curtain, the pulled thread on the sofa, the broken cup?
If there are other members of the household, do they agree to having a cat?
If there is a landlord, does he or she allow pet cats?
Will my cat have regular daily companionship with a person or another pet?
When I go away on vacation or a work trip, will I be able to get a neighbor, friend, or professional pet sitter to care for the cat in my absence?
Can I handle cleaning vomit or diarrhea if my cat gets sick?
Am I prepared to care for a cat throughout its entire life, which may span 15+ years?
Can I afford the ongoing cost of high-quality (high protein) cat food and litter?
In addition to the upfront spay and neuter costs (which can be $250-$600 depending on the vet practice), can I afford ongoing routine vet care - which can cost $300 -$800/year?
